The No. 23 Weatherford College softball team had a dynamic performance during the Southwest District Championship at Wrangler Softball Complex this week.
The Coyotes overwhelmed Western Texas College in an 11-1 blowout, defeated conference rival McLennan Community College in a comeback 12-10 victory, but lost the championship game 6-14 against No. 10 Odessa College.
It was an offensive showcase for WC in its near-shutout victory over Western Texas. Six separate Coyotes earned an RBI, with Karlie Landrum leading the charge on a three-run homer to right field in the top of the fourth.
The pitcher's circle only allowed one run, striking out five total.
The second game against No. 8 McLennan was a battle to the end. WC hit the ground hard, bringing four runners home in the first inning against the Highlanders' two.
From then on, WC and MCC would continue to even out the score. McLennan took their first lead in the bottom of the sixth with a 9-8 score.
The Coyotes answered by taking the lead and ultimately the game, winning 12-10.
Kamryn Mears pitched a strong 5.1 innings, striking out three and allowing seven earned runs, while Addison Brown earned the save, allowing only one earned run.
WC played its rematch against Odessa on Friday, scoring four early against the Wranglers.
Tying the match up at five a piece at the end of the second inning, Odessa managed to earn three runs in the third.
While the Coyotes tried their best to bridge the gap, the Wranglers only made it wider, taking the win after five.
